Museum of Biological Diversity

Started: June 2019
Ended: Active
Total Hours:47

The Museum of Biological Diversity is owned and operated by Ohio State University. It contains animal specimens from around the globe

Some of my duties are:

Understand terminology and add specimen data to the database using Microsoft Access.

Clean dead tissue and other matter off skeletons of animals after they were cleaned by beetles. This involves using soft brushes, scalpel and tweezers to delicately remove particles.

Enter specimen data in databases from forms.

Dissect birds that come into the facility.

Follow procedure to remove and clean all internal muscles and tissues from specimen's body and skull. The skull and certain bones are kept intact for body definition prior to stuffing. Some bones that remain are broken to develop a final look.

Take samples of certain tissues and organs for testing. Remaining organs are discarded.

Specimen is sewed shut and the final specimen must have a symmetrical appearance before completion.
